Washington's $80 million Man!!!!

At this point in time the Redskin faithful need to recognize that "their team" is RG3.  My concern for their franchise is not having their player get hurt.  He needs to develop the "ability" to become a better pocket passer.  If not, in the future he will get smashed and, it will take the Redskins another 4 years to rebuild.  In general, they have a good defense.  They need more of a solid leadership role from Griffin.  Griffin needs to take command of that team and, decide that they won't be losers anymore in the NFC east.  With all the $ this cat makes he needs to bring more to the table.  Overall, Washington's return on investment with RG3 has not been what it should be to this point.  BTW good win against the Bears today.         Paul E. COLTS BEAT BRONCOS....BIG win****2013

Well, what I can tell you is that I didn't expect my Colts to pull it out.  OK call it a lack of faith in Andrew Luck and, crew.  However, after watching them get handled by the Chargers last week I was worried.  Robert Mathis may have had the game of his life.  The Colts ruffed up Peyton like I haven't seen all year.  I was very happy with the way the Indy fans cheered and, paid respects to him before the game.  And, then at kickoff went crazy and, it was game time.  My suspicion is that this is a prequel to a playoff matchup of some kind.  Hopefully, the Colts will play them at home.

I would like to see the Colts get better at running the ball/time management.  You can not let the clock stop and, open up opportunities for great quarterbacks like Manning.  Next time he will get you; if you can't close that door properly.  Don't get me wrong. They did a good job.  But, not a suffocating job so that the Broncos steam was taken out of their sails with 5 minutes left.  Particularly, in this game the Colts should have "locked-up" this game by that point.

I couldn't ask for a better defensive effort from the crew.  Blue jerseys were everywhere.  The "d" line pushed hard and gave Peyton relatively little time to operate.

Broncos looked like the Broncos usually do this year.  The looked like the team to beat.  Eric Decker is a beast making some crazy circus catches.  Best of luck to the Broncos the rest of the year and, in particular to my favorite NFL player all-time Peyton Manning.

World Series Bound St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox

Both teams are really hot right now.  Hence, why they got "here".  Game 1 is on Wednesday.  I believe that the St. Louis Cardinals will win it.  Both, have had great years. It will be exciting to see two teams that are so aggressive with base running and, swinging the bat.  Hedged up against great pitching by guys like Wacha and Lester.  Boston having the best record in baseball this year seems to be a worthy opponent for all of the marbles.

I think that the St. Louis Cardinals will win in 6 games.  They will rely on their best pitching of the year and, a hungry team that hasn't gotten a lot of news headlines this year.

Denver Broncos VS. Indy's Colts ***** 10-20-2013

After the big fiasco with Jim Irsay this week; Peyton Manning will be ready.  I believe this game to be of great importance to the Colts.  After losing all respect last week against San Diego they must make a statement tonight.  I don't believe they have to win; but they must show.  They have to show that they can hang with the best.  If they lose by 10 or less I believe that to be a respectable showing.  I'd love for them to come out and, beat the Broncos.  That would be huge for my Colts.  However, I've seen this Manning guy play before he's pretty good.

I expect Manning to clock manage very, very well.  That is why the Colts must put up touchdowns every drive.  If they don't they are in big trouble. Expect Manning to lead the Broncos with 40 minutes in time of possession.  It is pretty clear that both of these teams are playoff bound.  With that in mind; is this a preview of what we could see come January.

Final score Broncos 40 Colts 23

*Colts fans you had better cheer your guy on. Even though he's on another team now.  Don't be like Houston and, jeer the main reason you so much success.

Detroit Tigers (2013) Not That Hungry***

Particularly, concerning the ALCS (against the Red Sox) the Tigers looked tired & old. Their hitting was atrocious.  I almost figured they were lucky to beat the A's in the divisional series.  The last month of the season was a big indicator to me that they would not make the World Series.  It was almost liked they played a new season since then but, the "team" was without Fielder and Cabrera.

You can't have Fielder go such a very long time without an RBI.  Also, Cabrera proved to be a huge liability in the field with his injury.  They just all around looked sluggish.  The Red Sox looked like they were hungrier and, had the drive to do whatever it takes to get to the Fall Classic.  They took more risks and, they usually paid off.  Not to mention that Leyland can't manage a bullpen to save his life.  In Game 6 you have to have Scherzer go the distance.  BIG MISTAKE.....BIG

*Better luck next year Tigers!!!

***Pre-Season Picks to Win Super Bowl in 2014

Below I have ranked the teams with their (clearly) pre-season odds of winning the Super Bowl.  I will start with my favorite to win and, then detail a little bit about why I think they (each team) has a serious shot at the SB.

The Denver Broncos--- I believe that they have odds @ (3-1).  Peyton will have tons of fire power. The team is largely intact from last year.  They also acquired a couple great players on "d".  If they do not win it; it will be because Peyton throws an interception and, loses a playoff game.  In all of Peyton's greatness he still loses big games.  No, truly "GREAT" qb has been given so many opportunities and, come away with so little.  Yes, I understand he won a SB already.  But, often he finds a way to lose the big ones.

The San Francisco 49ers-----I believe that they have odds @ (5-1).  As long as Kaepernick(?) is healthy I think they can go a long way.  His mobility makes me nervous & excited to see how they do this year.  They have lost almost no players at all.  Strangely, enough for being as great as they appear to be; they may not win their division.

The New England Patriots------I believe that they have odds @ (6-1).  Tom Brady, Belichick, they always find a way to be in the hunt.  They just do.  Tom Brady always seems to "will" the game no matter what the circumstances are.  Downside on the Patriots is a  young and, inexperienced receiving corp that could drop balls in a playoff run.

The Seattle Seahawks-------I believe that they have odds @ (9-1).  They have beefed up some serious players that are young.  This team has only upside.  This team could easily be talked about for the next 4 years for SB contention.  I take them as the fourth best odds b/c their inexperience could be suspect come playoff time.

It will be interesting to revisit this particular blog come January and, see how the season has panned out.  I will be shocked if these teams don't make the playoffs.  I think there is a really good shot that these could be the NFC and, AFC championship matchups.

MLB Baseball's "OTHER" problem****

Actually the NBA also in a way has this problem.  The problem that they play way too many games.  Particularly in baseball that they play 7 consecutive nights sometimes; is a problem. I believe that the game is too accessible to the average fan.  Hence, the true demand for baseball drops.  Why buy a ticket today when I can go...tomorrow.  Not only that; from May to about October its like this.  If you can't see your team all the time then maybe people will pay more for their tickets.

The teams that are average or, below average tend to also be affected more by too much accessibility.  The idea for this specific blog came from me looking into buying Detroit Tigers tickets.  Supposedly, the Tigers have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball.  Scherzer, Verlander, and, Sanchez and I can get a ticket for $7.00 (granted in the upper deck).  This is crazy to me.  Now as a fan; I'm happy the tickets are $7 but, my first thought was....I'll wait.  If in two weeks they still have 40 tickets in the section I want; I'll buy them then.  If they played less games this ticket is $14.50 and still gets sold.  It makes me wonder what management of these pro-MLB teams really think of the product on the field.  Even if they really and, truly back it hard; demand for these games must be crazily affected by the enormously large number of games played.

My idea for the MLB to counteract this problem is this.  Play half as many games from start of season to the third week of June.  Play the same of number of games (as currently played) from the 3rd week of June to the first week of August.  All of August play at most 4 games a week.  Then play September as currently set up. So as to create a push to the playoffs.  Or, expand playoff structure so 2 more teams make the playoffs in each bracket.  This playoff expansion can cut the regular season off at Sept. 20th and, then hype the playoffs. Make even more $ in the playoffs due to jersey sales and, increased ticket prices etc. With 2 more teams making the playoffs in AL & NL the quality of play will not be a detriment.  And, since they played less games (in Aug) will hopefully be healthier for a great showdown to finish the season with excitement and, higher ticket prices for owners.

CHOKING GF by MTSU player(s)

Wow, the fact that we have come to this is amazing.  I recommend that you view this article in conjunction with my post.  These (3) dudes appear to be redshirt sophomores.  Which is funny cuz they don't even start.  This is my official plee to NFL teams and, all collegiate sporting teams (particularly b-ball and football).  Please, look into a person's background and viability as being "college" material before letting them be on the "team".  I don't believe for 1 second that this is a racial thing; however I do believe it to be a morality thing.  Maybe, just maybe if we as a nation started profiling players before (or even during) looking at their stats. as to their moral past; we could promote our sport(s) better.  Going further, I do not believe that by looking at moral fitness that quality of play on field/court will be influenced one bit.  In fact, I believe that it will enhance it.  It will bring better ambassadors to the sport(s) arena (not intended to be a pun).  Particularly, basketball and football are team games.  In general, they do not live and die by any 1 player on their team.  Keeping this in mind; I think teams everywhere should be very selective about who they use to represent their school/team.  From now on....I promise that I will think of Middle Tennessee State as..."Isn't that where they had those dudes who choked they girl!?"

Ryan Braun Suspension****

It seems strange to me that Ryan Braun is the first domino to fall in the most recent round of drug abuse/misuse in the MLB.  First of all, my gut suspicion says that there are many (2-3) other big name guys that are "active" on rosters involved with this story.  Ryan Braun and, A-Rod are both the 2 names that keep coming up on this list of drug abuse.  Where are the guys that hit homers and, are offensive power houses for their teams?  Now let me be clear; I am not accusing any "one" player at this point.  But, I find it very, very convenient that Braun and A-Rod are the guys that the media and, MLB keep pointing to.  Its ok to point the finger at them b/c everybody knows that when you do steroids you start to play poorly or, have an injury to your thumb.

On a side note; Why is Joe Girardi talking about how the game has cleaned up?  Really!? They (MLB) went like 15 years (something like 6-7 for darn certain) of knowing that this was going on and, did "NOTHING".  They had no problem taking that money from fans while Barry blasted it 500 feet.  We had no idea what was going on! Really!?  As far as I'm concerned Girardi in a very strange way....I think the game is as dirty as ever.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why baseball's popularity over the last 20 years in general has dropped.  Moms want their kids to play soccer b/c they don't want them to do steroids.  Don't worry when the NFL (due to safety issues/concussions) and MLB (due to steroids) can't get kids to play on the school yard; soccer will be there to pick up the pieces.

Take Away His Cape!

Max Scherzer finally gets a loss.  As far as, I'm concerned so far he is the biggest story of the 2013 baseball season.  Giving up four runs and, not getting enough run support from an explosive offensive unit caused this loss.  It is almost a foregone conclusion that proportionately he will be the best pitcher this year and, we aren't even to the All-Star break yet.  The one big question I have is....At the end of the 2014 season will the Tigers be able to afford this type of an arm.  Or, can we get Verlander back to "out of this world" type pitching to the put the Tigers into real serious contention again.
Along, with getting pitching straight and, riding Scherzer hard.  The Tigers should be able to make the playoffs and, make a deep run.  I am excited to see how Scherzer does the rest of the year and, ultimately see how he finishes his contract.   Are we looking at the next Yankee?

LeBron VS JORDAN

First, of all let me say that there is no way in "H" that LeBron is leaving Miami.  They're crazy if you think; he thought about this for one second.  The Heat are poised to be "THE" title contender for next year.  Onto, my point...Every era has their legends.  When I was 10 y.o. I didn't think it was possible to have anybody be better than Jordan.  I think that it is time; if you haven't already to visit or, revisit the...."IS LEBRON BETTER THAN JORDAN?" question.  At this point in time of being the same age LeBron and Jordan have the same number of titles.
Admittedly, when LeBron, Bosh, and D-wade went to Miami in that super ridiculous media conference and, they said not 5, not 6, 7 championships....I laughed.  And, I laughed real hard.  Now no one can predict the future.  And, Erik Spoelstra is not Phil Jackson.  Albeit, that I do like Spoelstra.  The following are some questions that you should ponder.....
1. What would it look like if LeBron developed a "kill" mentality that Jordan had? (B/c currently I don't think he has it in him or, rather hasn't developed it.)
2. Who is better defensively Jordan or LeBron?
3.  What would LeBron have looked like/been like had he been on the Bulls instead of Jordan and, vice versa?

I don't think for one second that someone would dispute LeBron being a better passer than Jordan.  As far as, question 3 is concerned....I believe Jordan had a much better team around him than LeBron ever thought of.  So the question continues is LeBron better than Jordan?

Tiger VS. Twins Sun. 6-16-2013

Doug Fister taking the mound today in Minnesota the AL central stays a tightly contested race.  Fister plunking a league leading 12 batters still has a great ERA and, needs hitters to hit well for him.  Hopefully, with a  win the Tigers can extend their 4 game lead in the central.  This would put the Twins about 7.5 out of first place which would be very helpful to keep them out of the race early.  The Tigers currently have the best batting average and, on-base-percentage.  However, their biggest curse is not being able to string hits together.  Having the kind of firepower that they do; it has proven to be fairly disappointing to this point in the season.  Paul E. BRUINS WIN GAME #2 Stanley Cup****

Games 1 & 2 of the Stanley Cup have proven to be quite entertaining.  Game 1 was the most watched first game of "the Cup" since 1997.  This is the first time in 61 years that Game 1 and 2 went to OT.  As always goalie play was critical tonight with Tuuka Rast on the winning side for the Bruins.  Daniel Paille went on to score the winning goal in OT.  The Bruins also put their sticks where their mouth was/is putting behind them game 1.  The Blackhawks and the Bruins this year are proving to me that hockey is better than ever and, that the extra attention is deserved.  Buckle up b/c we are in for a great series still coming.  Paul E. Tiger "OFF" his game!!!!

On holes 2 through 6 on Saturday's play for Tiger he got 3 bogeys.  For this weekend he has 16 bogeys.  Tiger is on "par" for his worst play as a professional golfer.  Despite being ranked #1 in the world; almost with certainty will end the weekend not winning another major.  It has now been five years since he has won a major.  The big question that I have is....Since he hasn't won in so long; how long can he hold onto the #1 golfer in the world title?  Is there a new Tiger on the horizon?  Or, Will we see Tiger take the reigns and, show the world his real capabilities AGAIN?????? Detroit Red Wings closing in on a PLAYOFF Birth

In the last two games of the season the Redwings need 1 point to clinch a berth.  Despite the Redwings clearly having a down year; they still have a shot.  A shot that I personally thought was gone about 2 months ago.  I think their outstanding stick-2-it-ness should be commended regardless of a berth or not.  Hopefully they make the playoffs and, do well.  4-26-2013 Paul E. Mr. Te'O is an absolute steal in the draft now.  If you need a player at this position.  The draft is such a crapshoot in the first place.  It is a big mistake to go get him now; after the first day.  Yeah, he has downside but, everyone does.  Look at the other players that were drafted before him.  These teams are absolutely stupid if they don't draft him now.  PAUL E. Underdogs in the tournament ....NOT so MUCH ***

Maybe I was the only one who was anticipating many more of the underdogs winning in the first round.  The main underdogs to win so far are 3 of the 12 seeds.  The only exception to not win was Akron who played VCU.  VCU appears to be very dangerous and, Michigan had better be ready to play.  They look like a team to be reckoned with.  Their defense and, offensive penetration look solid as well as spectacular.  Maybe just maybe we will see a few more upsets this afternoon.  The main potential I see left today are Minnesota over UCLA and, Colorado over Illinois.  However, to some degree they wouldn't be considered upsets b/c of how close they are in seeding.  Anything outside of these would be considered a "real" upset though.  Get ready for a wild weekend.  The great teams are just getting ready to fight for there lives.  I'd like see Indiana, MSU, VCU and, Louisville keep rolling.  They play great ball and, provide great entertainment.

NCAA Bracket Busting!!!!

This college basketball season has proved to be the outlier of all outlying years.  Some have described the parity amongst the NCAA division 1 as freakish, scary, and, even unbelievable.  Entering the tournament with no clear cut number 1 that is certain to make the final four this should be a tournament for the ages.  The one question that I am most curious about is...."Is this the year that the lowest seeded team (of all time) will win the tournament?"
The lowest seeded team to win the NCAA tourney to this point is Villanova in 1985.  They were an 8 seed. With so much instability amongst the top ranked teams; there is plenty of room for  a deep run from teams like Creighton, Gonzaga, and, Belmont.  It is quite possible that we may have too many Cinderellas at the dance.  With that in mind it might be possible for a very low seed to win "it".
Among all of the excellent to good middle bracket teams.  The really excellent teams like IU have not been able to seperate from the pack.  IU lost 3 of its last 6.  Kansas and Louisville have both lost 3 in the row in the not too distant past.  Since the brackets came out today we will have to wait a couple of days to let the games begin.  But, come Wednesday....."Let's get it on."

New England Pats....& their OFF SEASON

Last month Tom Brady and, the Pats agreed to a 3 year $27 million deal.  According to Michael Silver (a Yahoo Sports Expert!)  says that Brady should be very upset by them not resigning Wes Welker and, letting him go to the Broncos.  I'd have to say not so fast. First, over the last 10 years what NFL franchise systematically and, consistently has made great moves to stay on top?  ANSWER:  The New England Patriots.  Yes, they may be giving Brady more pressure to compete with less talent.  However, they know he can handle it.  As any other employee in the country... He gets paid.  Put that pressure on him...Welcome to America. Second, they just signed Danny Amendola in a very Pats like move.  They got a guy with slightly less production wanting less money and, a longer term contract.  A real "VALUE" move like they are known to do.  Another point to be made is....Who knows the needs of the NE Patriots football team best?  My guess is the GM and Bill Belichick.  Maybe they know something about their team that analysts do not.  (i.e. injuries, attitudes of players, and, work ethic)  Maybe, just maybe Welker got dealt b/c of a bad work ethic last year.  Now granted this is complete speculation but, its tough to argue with a franchise that consistently knows what it needs to do to stay on top of the AFC East almost every single year.

One of the most certain first ballot hall of famers and, arguably the best tight end ever (Tony Gonzalez).  Has informed "officially" the Atlanta Falcons that he will return for 1 last year.  It will be nice to see him 1 last time before he packs it up.  Yes, he is older/old but, the guy is still amazing and in great shape.  I am glad to see this happen.  Hopefully, at Christmas we will be looking at one of his best years ever and, a playoff run for the Falcons and, Mr. Gonzalez.

**NFL FREE agency Excitement STARTS 2day****

Within the next 2 hours free agency starts.  In a lot of respects the new 2013 season will be starting.  We will finally see if the Patriots want to keep Wes Welker or, let him go.  Yes, Welker is 32y.o. however, he has caught 72% of Tom Brady's passes since 2007.  Only Jordy Nelson of the Green Bay Packers has a higher percentage than that.  Over the same time frame.  Other big questions are whether Darrelle Revis will be traded. Defensive tackles that are notables entering the 4 o'clock hour are Richard Seymour (Raiders), Jason Jones (Seahawks), and, Mike DeVito (Jets).  Quarterbacks likely to be left hanging (for a home) during free agency include; Jason Campbell (Bears), Drew Stanton (Colts), and, Rex Grossman (Redskins) among many others.  Reggie Bush and Steven Jackson are also entering free agency.  We will see who has the money and, hutzpah to make a splash right out of the gate come 4 p.m.

Liberty's NCAA bid *****

It is very likely that this year one of the worst or, at least tied for worst college team will make the big dance. Only one other time has a team made the tournament with a 20 loss season.  With a record of 15-20 and, losing its first 8 games of the season it lays claim to an automatic bid.  Their automatic bid comes off of toppling Charleston Southern as the winner of the Big South.  They will more than likely enter the tournament as a 16th seed and, play in Dayton.  However, with a team this terrible and, hopeless they should be happy to keep playing.  I think that the world is waiting for the first time in history that a 16 seed beats a number 1 seed.  However, that may have to wait for another year. But, I keep hoping.

Richard Sherman Ranting on First Take!!!

Mr. Sherman had some very unkind words for Skip Bayless today on ESPN's "First Take".  The Seahawks star should take some time and, chill.  Before, you go running at the mouth their are a couple of factors that he should consider.  First, that he "is" a player in the NFL.  With all this obnoxious noise about being better than Darrelle Revis maybe he needs to not be on Twitter so much. You can debate those issues at another time.  Even "if" Richard Sherman were the best player to play football in the last 20 years.  He needs to calm down.

If I were a player in the NFL; particularly a Revis teammate next year.  He would be getting a message.  With the intensity of the game.  And, the overwhelming violence that is part of the NFL's nature he had better be more careful than to have diarrhea of the mouth. Hopefully, for his sake his "3rd year" won't be his last.  All that I can say is that if I were a wide receiver or, tight end I wouldn't be trying to necessarily avoid a tackle.  I'd try to take it head on so that maybe he gets that everybody in the league is/are the best in the world at this game.

Is Alex Smith going to the Chiefs?

It has recently been speculated by some sports journalists that Alex Smith will soon become a Kansas City Chief.  I believe that this would be a good landing spot.  Particularly since they have just put the franchise tag on Dwayne Bowe.  Also, they have appeared to be making a little bit of noise in the off season with trying to acquire players.  As this is part of the normal cycle of the NFL system.  It is about time that they make a splash and, attempt to become a contender.  Upon Andy Reid's arrival and, the hope of a not so pass happy offense maybe; just maybe they can be the Indianapolis Colts of the 2013-2014 season.  Let's see what else the KC Chiefs can do as we prepare for the draft.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Chiefs make more noise in the next couple months.  Especially, if they come out of the gate and have an excellent draft.  Alex Smith along with those components could make the Chiefs a real contender for the next 4-5 years.

Disappointing Te'O @ Combine

After all the hullabaloo about Manti Te'O having a "fake" girlfriend.  And, in my mind the media harassment that he has underwent.  He showed up to the combine.....To not show up at the combine.  With a 40yd dash speed of 4.82 seconds; he really should have been faster to erase doubts about his abilities.  In some respect this lack of speed and, effort has caused major concerns for teams that are near the top of the draft.  He will absolutely get drafted and, should.  However, he really hurt his stock.  But, most of all he really, really hurt his stock when he didn't man-up to the fact that he was slow.  Don't bring excuses or, that trash that you ran a 4.5 sec. 40yd dash yesterday.  We don't care.  If you can't show up at the combine.  Maybe like Jim Rome said "You can't show up in the 4th quarter."

Ryan Grigson Answers ?s regarding his approach & Style

Ryan Grigson the Indianapolis Colts general manger answered questions Thursday regarding whether he would rather draft a tackle or, a defensive back. His response was that he would rather take a defensive back because; he felt it was an easier adjustment to the NFL.  And, that all you have to do for a great defensive back is to have amnesia on plays.  But, for a tackle the adjustment period is very significant.  Its not an easy position and, that they will be confronted with a wide variety of blitzes.  As well as, seeing players that are unbelievably big. Or, physical specimens that they hadn't seen in college.

Grigson is a combine veteran who has worked it for years.  Starting from entry-level positions and, moving up the ranks to one of its top officials.  When posed the question; "What would be the one thing you would change in the combine?"  He said, that he would put the players in pads and, see how they perform in a more game simulated setting.  I think this is a great suggestion and, the NFL should consider it.

Dr. Mark Emmert & the NCAA

Emmert should step down due to his loss of institutional control  of the NCAA.  The NCAA is a great concept to regulate the amateur status of all athletes at the collegiate level.  However, Emmert has headed up an organization that has become slippery at best itself.  Due to the unethical issues related to the investigative process at the University of Miami involving Mr. Shapiro.
This is the regulatory body not a school.  And, on that basis we need to have Mr. Emmert step down.  At this point big time universities need to get together and revamp a program that works.  Mr. Emmert's program doesn't.  Maybe the NCAA can work again to fit it's goal of ethical collegiate athletics.  In the words of Mike Greenburg from "Mike and Mike" radio show.....it is just "laughable" that this guy is still in charge or, that we should give any credence to his future sanctions on teams.  At what point does the NCAA decide they need a new front man?  Myself and, many others believe that time is now.  "IF" that time is not now then we can not take the NCAA seriously in the future.  We can not take their regulatory status or their sanctions to be of any merit.  Nor should any school for that matter.  Maybe big time programs should think about moving away from the NCAA?   Paul E. Change in field size for NFL????

The NFL released a statement today or, yesterday saying that it is considering changing the field size.  By making it a wider configuration.  It is confusing to me that the NFL would release such a statement at this time.  What are they hoping to gain at this juncture?   Have they done ALL the research to know how this will affect the games?  Will this change; change the way referees call the games?  By its appearance it looks like the NFL is trying to make the game safer and, take a little steam off of some of the hits that can happen.

It would be prudent to take extensive surveys of fans and, to see what the players think of this.  This could be a significant detriment to the game.  As well as on the flip side this could make the game that much better. Hopefully, for the NFL's sake this isn't like the replacement ref situation; where they just look bad.  Roger Goodell has been particularly arrogant on one specific front that bothers me.  That is that he comes through and, makes a lot of decisions thinking that the fans will always watch football.  And, that the NFL can do just about anything and, the demand of the game will continue.  He may or, may not be right about that.  However, I think a change of field size has the potential to be both good and, bad equally.

We'll see where this story goes from here.  I am looking forward to hearing more about this in the future.

Sparty vs. In-State Rival Michigan (Another Big 10 Battle)

I know (like everybody else) that the Big 10 is crazy good this year. We are in for another showdown between the #8 and #4 seed in the country. Both are great contenders for the Big 10 title. Outside of being a Big 10 fight; this should be a great game due to being the first game this season where both teams have at least 20 wins. And, this is the first time in the series that they will be facing each other while both being the in the top 10 in the country. This should be a very closely contested game with local and, national implications. However, unlike a lot of others who have discussed this game; I don't believe this game to be a must win game for either. There is a lot of season left and, all teams in the Big 10 had better get a lot better if they want a piece of the Big 10 title. Or, a deep run at a national championship. Sparty needs Appling to play out of his mind with a ferocious team led defense. The other part of the strategy should be to out-muscle and, feed the offense through the post for the Spartans to come out with a victory. On the other hand the Wolverines need to create shots for each other as well as on an individual basis. They have a group of guys that can all create their own shots; maybe the best in the country at this aspect. They have to shoot well and, have great ball control. And, in general play at the pace that Michigan wants to if they have a shot at this win. I am not going to pick a winner. Because, I'll probably be wrong. Either way this should be another classic match-up. A good prequel to the big dance coming up next month. It starts at 9 p.m. eastern tonight. Enjoy!!!! Paul E. Spors 2-12-2013

NFL Conference Championship 1-20-2013

The Ravens play the Patriots in a heated Foxborough battle. And, the 49ers will be visitng the Falcon's nest in Atlanta. Will this be Ray Lewis' last weekend playing football? Or, will Tom Brady lead the troops to their Super Bowl destiny? One thing is for sure. There is plenty of great football coming. My prediction is that the Ravens will beat the Patriots 32-21. The Ravens will have to be stellar on defense and special teams. Ray Lewis and company must shake up Brady to make him uncomfortable all game. I believe that the Pats "d" will come out softer than they have in the playoffs. The Falcons will take it to San Francisco 28-14. Colin will not have the composure to handle a raucous Georgia Dome. Matty Ice is borderline unbelievable at home. Atlanta has all the motivation in the world to not look bad after limping into the NFC championship last week with a very poor performance. Roddy White and Julio Jones will be all over the field. Matt Ryan will just toss it up and let them do the rest of the work. I also believe that a big reason that the 49ers will lose is their inability to run the ball at running back. Ball possession issues will be their downfall. Enjoy the game and, let's get ready for the big game. Paul E. Spors

Lance Armstrong...What a LOSER!!!!!!1-15-2013

I think the title of this article says it all. Unfortunately like other people I am giving this guy too much credit. When he fell officially off the scene about 7 years ago; I wish he had never re-entered it. This guy is such a jerk. He must not have realized that he wasn't in the MLB. For me; its not just that he lied. Its that he tried to burn EVERYONE that told the truth about him using PEDs. He lied so consistently and, tried to tarnish other reputations along the way. It disgusts me that he has accumulated such wealth from lying to an international sports audience. At one point people would have argued that he was the greatest sports athlete on the planet. What a fraud!!! I guess maybe he was running out of money and, needs to sell some books. Another point that really irritates me; is why now? What is it about right now that he has to come forward to do this interview with Oprah. He is so not newsworthy and, not worth any real journalists time/energy. An apology now is just too late and, seemingly VERY insincere. He has had many, many years to do this by now. This blog is dedicated to the fact that I hope we NEVER hear from this clown again. That he won't sell any books and, that every time he goes into the grocery store that people stop and stare then say...."There goes that loser that lied to the whole world about his capabilities. And, he's a terrible person for trying to wreck other people's reputation for his own benefit." I hope parents tell their children..."Don't be like this guy!!" Paul E. Spors

Who "is" the best active NFL Quarterback? 1-14-2013

While on some social media websites I have seen a lot of knocking on Peyton Manning. About how he now has the most losses in playoff history. My problem with this logic is that (other than Mr. Brady) no one has been to the playoffs more consistently than him since 2000. Numbers wise Manning makes a great argument. Mr. Brady is another great pick. Today moving ahead of Joe Montana for the most wins in playoff history. No question that he has earned his honorable mention. For a spell of what seemed like 6 years your team could count on losing to them if you met in the playoffs. As an avid Colts fan it was a rarity to get past this jugernaut of a team led by Brady. Two others that I felt took a little bit of a back seat this year but, are on the elite list are Brees and Rodgers. If I am not mistaken Brees is the best statistically in the league for the last 5 years. And, seriously if the team you cheer for is in the NFC North and, its not the Packers Rodgers and company has done a great job of stealing your hope. Outside of these 4 players. I don't believe that anybody else can be "titled" ELITE. These 4 are the best. I think it just depends on what Sunday which one is going to play better. These 4 don't have flat Sundays. Collectively this group had like 3 down Sundays this year. They are crazy good and, have won the "BIG" game. Proven SB winners and, rings to prove it. What I am excited about is to see if this year we have a new name to decisively put on this list. Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and, Colin Kaepernick are we going to see your best? Can you clearly rise through the ranks as "the best" and win the Lombardi trophy? Only time will tell. It appears Tom Brady has something to say about it; at least until next Sunday. Paul E. Spors

Staples Center experiences SILENCE by Thunder! 1-12-2013

Kevin Durant's Thunder dominate the Lakers tonight. The Lakers accepted their largest deficit of the season by the hand's of the Thunder of 25 points late in the 4th quarter. You know that the night is going bad when Jack Nicholson & Adam Sandler leave the game early. Durant had 25 pts. by half time. The Lakers shot 6 for 28 from three point land. Kobe had an ice cold night going 8 for 25. The Lakers looked defeated and whipped all game long. At no point did it look like they wanted to play basketball. I've seen flat tires look more energetic. LA's lack of good passing and bad rotation on defense didn't leave much to look forward to. The crowd started to boo with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. I wondered what took them so long. Clark and Sacre appear to not be able to handle the threat of the "big" boys very well. Come on Dwight Howard how about you decide that you might benefit from acting like you at least want to be a Laker. Magic Johnson said, "Its over for the Lakers. No playoffs." After tonight's lack luster performance; I tend to agree. Kobe gives the impression that he is not in control of "his" locker room and, doesn't want to play any defense either. Too bad because I think the NBA is better when the Lakers (and Bulls) are really good. OKC and the other LA team have put the league on notice to say; "Here come the young bucks. WATCH OUT!" Peyton Manning VS. Ray Lewis 1-11-2013

There has been much hype and, rightfully so over these two greats meeting tomorrow. One of them could very easily be his last game. I would argue that both of these players have something "extra" to prove tomorrow. Ray Lewis that he will go out a winner against a formidable foe. Peyton Manning needs to prove that he is the Peyton Manning of old or, maybe even better. My prediction is that the Ravens will hang in there until about half time. Then they will just lose it in the third quarter. This due to Manning's surgical and precise approach to dismantling teams. The Ravens "d" needs to be prepared to be on the field for a long time. And, the Broncos defense is definitely better than any defense Manning had in Indianapolis. Win or lose for either of these players; a lasting legacy has been made for each. One of the more interesting things about this game is that both player is as tied or synonymous with a franchise as any players to play any sport. The Ravens could easily be named the Baltimore Ray Lewis's....likewise for the Indianapolis Manning's. The score will be 35-17 Broncos. Joe Flacco will have a career deflating day. He will also look as UN-elite as he ever has. Best of luck to both teams; as well as to Lewis and Manning. As a true advocate of the game I hope that we continue to see Manning for a long time. Mr. Lewis (win or lose) it has been a fun ride and, you will be missed. I think that it would be great to see you in the analyst booth. Paul E. Spors

2013 MLB Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees**

So yesterday was the Hall of Fame induction for baseball in 2013. There were several deserving candidates on the ballot that did not get the Cooperstown nod. The top 3 snubs were Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, and, Craig Biggio (in no particular order). The Hall of Fame is not a religious institution of holy order; with pomp and circumstance. If we can not elect these 3 tremendously great players to the H.o.F. then we can not elect anyone for the next 15 years. The steroid era is its own time capsule of sorts for baseball. It must be acknowledged and, if not then what person or, institution decides the morality on this issue? Just like the dead ball era it must be acknowledged. I don't see how if you are a baseball purist that you can not accept this. I have 2 other very significant reasons on why it must be acknowledged. Babe Ruth's indiscretion and, character flaws did not surface until after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Arguably one of the greatest players to have ever touched a bat. If you want to make it about moral obligation or character then; take Babe Ruth out of the Hall of Fame. As well as any player that cheated on his wife. Clearly the numbers indicate that these three players should be in the Hall. Over time baseball talent has gotten progressively better. Arguably, you have to be more talented in 2013 to play baseball than any time period in the past. The demand for talent mixed with exceptional skill is as great as ever. That being said particularly Clemens and Bonds are the best players of that era. Or, maybe even the two best players in the last 30 years. Also, why is the fact that Clemens was acquitted in a court of law (for steroid use) not taken into account? I fully understand the perspective of current ex-players in the Hall. However, to baseball and, particularly baseball's fans it is irrelevant. Do you honestly think that Jerry Rice wanted Calvin Johnson to break his single season wide receiving record? I don't think so. Hence, living members of the H.o.F. have an incentive to keep the number of members in the Hall lower. Due to its prestige and, glory. Besides the MLB turned a blind eye to steroid usage. They knew that if Sosa, McGwire, and Bonds kept bashing homers that they would make tons of money. Baseball's wreckless use of make money now and, worry about the consequences later is not acceptable. The player's knew what was going on. Steroids and, baseball will inseperably be tied. And, for that reason so should the players that used steroids make the Hall. Not having that be the case eventually; is like taking steering wheels out of cars.

NEW to Blogging.....Aspiring Sports Journalist****

This is my new blog. I have never blogged before and, barely know how to use this technological communication device. However, I plan to learn as I go. This blog is dedicated to local sports reporting (by myself) and, to new/different perspectives of sports than what you may find on ESPN or other mainstream media news outlets. I believe that I can provide informational and, intelligent dialogue to the world of sports. It is my hope that beyond providing the "information" that in some very small way it may help your life and, to learn more about the human condition we call life. One of my dreams is to become a national sports writer. I also understand that this is a goal that other people have as well. But, I figure whether or not that happens is in some ways irrelevant. I just really, really enjoy sports. Hopefully other sports enthusiasts/fans find this blog and, contribute (intelligently & respectfully) in that process. HERE WE/I GO!!!!!!!! Paul E. Spors
